Anyone who knows me knows how much I like movies, and the horror genre, specifically. One of my all time favorites is Candyman. The funny thing about this is I was introduced to this movie by my mother, of all people. True story. I was about 11 years old at the time, and my love for horror hadn’t quite developed yet, and I could get scared of some shit. My mom is not a prankster, so I don’t know if she thought it was something other than the urban horror/love story/gore fest masterpiece that it is, but we saw the whole thing, and when we got home, she had me read the bible, I guess to pray the memory of what we just saw away.

Anyway, fast forward to 2020, and we have a new Candyman coming out, and it’s produced by new horror auteur, Jordan Peele. Not only that, the original Candyman, Tony Todd, is returning in some capacity. It’s still early, but the details so far are enough to have me stoked. I have loved both of Jordan Peele’s movies, I found his take on The Twilight Zone interesting, and so I’m trusting this character is in good hands.

Below is a t-shirt illustration I made for horror clothing brand Fright-Rags (www.fright-rags.com), done back in 2017, and sadly is no longer available in their store. The concept on the right was inspired by the graffiti seen alongside the buildings in the projects of Cabrini Green, and the message ‘sweets to the sweet’ that pops up here and there throughout the movie.
